Which Airlines Require Masks For Passengers?

There areĀ a lot of things you need to know about coronavirus and travel, and now here's another: You may need to wear a face mask on board. Four major airlines are now requiring passengers to wear face coverings on all flights to protect against the spread of coronavirus. JetBlue was the first to implement the protocol, and days later, Delta, American and Frontier announced their own policies. Flight attendants and other aircraft employees will be required to wear them too.

"While we remain committed to our new standard of clean and to providing more space for our customers when they travel, we take seriously the CDC guidelines for adding this extra layer of protection," Delta chief customer experience officer Bill Lentsch said in a statement. "We believe this change will give customers and employees some additional comfort when traveling with us."

Frontier, Delta and JetBlue also ask that customers wear their face covering outside the cabin throughout their journey, including at check-in, gates, security lines, restrooms and airport lounges and other high-traffic areas. Mobile phone push notifications, signage, displays will serve as reminders.

Beyond airplanes, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that people wear face coverings when out in public, especially where social distancing isn't possible. If you're unsure how to do so in a manner that's most effective, use this guide on how to properly wear a face mask.
