Dollywood's Iconic Water Park And Resorts Are Rejecting This Payment Method In 2026

In an increasingly tech-based world, even the way we pay for things is liable to change. Some shifts can happen without you even noticing. For example, consider these Pew Research Center stats. In 2015, 24% of U.S. adults made nearly all of their weekly purchases using cash. By 2018, only three years later, that number shrank to just 18%. In 2022, only 14% relied on cash, 44% only exchanged physical currency for some purchases, and 41% claimed not to use cash at all. With this in mind, it may not surprise you to learn that theme park giants such as Disney are rolling out cashless vending initiatives or that major venues like California's SoFi Stadium now only accept credit, debit, and mobile payments. Joining the ranks of these cash-free spaces is an offshoot of the iconic Southern amusement park known as Dollywood.

On May 16, Dollywood's Splash Country water park property in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, stopped accepting cash payments. Per the official Dollywood website, Splash Country will now "accept electronic payments only, including debit cards, credit cards, and mobile options like Apple Pay and Google Pay." Notably, this move to a "fully electronic payment system" does not currently include accepting cryptocurrencies.

Dollywood's Splash Country drops cash, embraces other changes

If Dollywood is a bucket-list trip for you, this payment switch up probably won't keep you from your dreams to visit and enjoy attractions like the world's first hybrid coaster ride. Even those clinging to cash payment don't have to change their plans too much, as Dollywood's Splash Country offers free-to-access Cash to Card Kiosks throughout the property. You can find some located at the front gate entrance plaza by the ticket booths and near the Riverside Trading Post wave pool locker inside the park. At these spots, you can exchange your money for a payment card, no fees required.

By June 11, this cash-free switch up will arrive at Dollywood Resorts, too. Like at the water park, these properties will feature some Cash to Card Kiosk locations to make the change easier for guests. For now, the main Dollywood park itself has not rolled out any similar policies.

Outside of payment-related concerns, there are other new developments to look out for at Dollywood's Splash Country. One such development is a fresh after-dark event called Neon Nights. During certain Friday and Saturday evenings from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. between June 19 and August 1, Neon Nights will entertain visitors with a vibrant light show at the water park's wave pool. Splash Country's menus are also getting revamped to include treats like boba drinks and loaded curly fries.
