Virginia's Largest Indoor Waterpark Is Coming Soon In 2026

A new family destination is garnering major buzz in the mid-Atlantic region among theme park enthusiasts. Kalahari Resorts & Conventions is slated to open in December 2026, bringing what will become the largest indoor water park in Virginia to Spotsylvania County. Spread across 135 acres, the project will be situated just off Interstate 95. The location is convenient for travelers coming from the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area, as well as Richmond, Charlottesville, and other cities in the region.

The Virginia park is the Kalahari brand's fifth resort, which already operates major resorts in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Texas, and Wisconsin. The company's concept focuses on African-inspired architecture and design, creating an authentic experience that incorporates enormous indoor water parks with hotels, restaurants, and entertainment centers all in one location. All of the parks are sprawling — and the Pennsylvania location in the Poconos Mountains is actually the largest indoor water park in the entire country.

Rivaling Pennsylvania's 220,000 square feet, the Virginia park comes in at just over 175,000 square feet. The park is planned to include an array of attractions, including waterslides, indoor surfing, a wave pool, and a play area specifically for children. Admission to the park will be included with every overnight stay at the resort, and guests will have access for the duration of their stay.

Beyond the Water Park

While the indoor water park is one of Kalahari's biggest draws, the Kalahari Resort will also offer visitors an exciting home-away-from-home experience. With plans for 900 guest suites with elegant, African-inspired decor and artwork, the resort will also feature Tom Foolerys Adventure Park. Here, guests of all ages can partake in mini golf, bowling, laser tag, ropes courses, go-karting, and other family-friendly activities.

Food is another major part of the overall Kalahari experience. Planned restaurants include a steakhouse, a bar and grill, a sweets shop, a chic piano bar and lounge, and eateries serving up Italian and Mexican cuisines. Guests visiting the indoor water park who aren't staying overnight may dine at any of the establishments.

While the seasonal Water Country USA holds the title as Virginia's largest water park, Kalahari Resorts & Conventions is poised to provide an indoor experience that allows visitors to splash and play at any time of the year, no matter what the weather conditions outside!
