7 Fall Adventures You Shouldn't Miss

Labor Day has come and gone and although it isn't officially fall yet, you can feel it coming. Cooler temperatures, changing leaves and pumpkin spice everything is fast approaching—and that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Many outdoor adventurers prefer the hot sunny days of summer, but fall has its charms too. If you're strapped for ideas on how to enjoy the season, we've come up with a few suggestions that get to the heart of fall.

See The Changing Leaves

Summer is typically considered the best season for hiking, but we think fall might be the real winner. Cooler temperatures, less crowded trails and the crisp colors of the changing leaves make this the best time of the year to tackle some new terrain. Set out on one of these trails to see some of the best colors fall has to offer.

Go Apple Picking

One of the sweetest fall traditions in every sense of the word, apple picking is a perfect weekend activity. Climbing trees and searching for apples is a great time, but the real prize comes in the form of apple pies, cobblers and ciders that you can make with the fresh apples you bring home.

Enter a Themed Run

Halloween and Thanksgiving are best known for sugar overloads and overeating, why not change up that tradition and enter a themed race? Turkey trots and zombie runs can be great motivation to continue exercising even as the weather gets colder.

Carve Pumpkins

Carving pumpkins might just be the most iconic October activity, which means it's a must on any fall to do list. Taking a trip to a pumpkin patch and picking your own may take extra time but it's worth the trip.

Visit a National Park

Just as hiking is even more enjoyable in the fall, this season is a perfect time to visit national parks. Aside from the unbelievable scenery, the fall brings a few other benefits: there are typically fewer people on the trails, the temperature is more moderate and you might be able to find some deals on local lodging. If you're in search of brilliant fall foliage displays, you can't go wrong with these parks.

Get Lost in a Corn Maze

Nothing says fall like getting separated from the group and being lost in a corn maze for a few hours.

Oktoberfest

Even if you can't make the trip to Germany, be sure to check out an Oktoberfest event in your area. Local festivals have a lot to offer, namely beer, brats and giant pretzels.
