Canada's Massive Amusement Park Is One Of The Largest In North America

Colossal roller coasters, heart-pumping rides, and a massive water park might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Canada. But just 20 miles north of Toronto in Vaughan, Ontario, you'll find all of these and more at Canada's Wonderland.

North America is filled with larger-than-life attractions. Like California's massive floating water park, Canada's Wonderland has earned several superlatives of its own. Not only is it the largest theme park in Canada, but since its 1981 opening, Canada's Wonderland has become one of the most-visited attractions in the greater Toronto area, according to Toronto Guardian. It also has multiple record-breaking rides such as the Yukon Striker, the world's longest, tallest, and fastest dive coaster.

The park features hundreds of attractions across over 300 acres. With the striking Wonder Mountain at its center, the park is separated into themed areas, each with unique attractions. With 4.4 out of 5 stars and nearly 68,000 reviews on Google, Canada's Wonderland is a huge hit with visitors. "From the moment we entered the park, we had an amazing experience. The rides were exciting, the atmosphere was full of energy, and there were so many attractions that everyone in our group enjoyed," shared visitor Roshan Kandel.

With 18 roller coasters, Canada's Wonderland has the third-most in the world, making it a bucket-list-worthy amusement park for any adrenaline junkie. Five of them, including the Thunder Run and Wilde Beast, have operated since the park's opening, and many others have broken records. In 2025, AlpenFury was added to the fleet, debuting as Canada's fastest launch coaster.

You don't have to be a coaster enthusiast to make the most of Canada's Wonderland, though. With calmer rides and attractions, KidZville and Planet Snoopy are perfect for families with younger children. If you prefer staying on solid ground, you can still enjoy live entertainment around the park, like watching the high divers plunge into Victoria Falls, a tradition dating back to the park's founding.

During the summer, the 20-acre Splash Works Waterpark offers visitors a chance to beat Toronto's heat. The waterpark has Canada's largest outdoor wave pool, 17 slides, like the 60-foot Muskoka Plunge and funnel-shaped Barracuda Blaster. Additionally, the Mountain Bay Cliffs are great for cliff jumping, while the Lazy River provides plenty of relaxation. To fuel up during a long, exciting day at the park, there are also several dining options, from hand-held classics to buffet-style restaurants and traditional Canadian fare.

Daily tickets to Canada's Wonderland start at around $32, while season passes begin at $63. The Gold Pass is a perfect option for thrill seekers, as it offers access to several Six Flags parks in the region, including Cedar Point, a staple Midwest Amusement Park. Other offers, such as bring-a-friend packages, flash sales, and first responder deals, can be found on Canada's Wonderland website. 

Peak season at Canada's Wonderland is July and August, with park hours from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. The park hosts several seasonal events every year, like Halloween Haunt from late September to early November, WinterFest in December, and KidZfest in late July. After the first week of January, the park closes until early May.

If you're planning a trip to Toronto, a day at Canada's Wonderland is worth adding to your itinerary since the park is about a 45 minute drive from downtown. However, you don't need a car to reach it, as public transport gets you there in about an hour and 20 minutes for around $5. If you're interested in staying less than 20 minutes away, you can save big by combining a one-day visit with a stay at a nearby hotel, such as the Monte Carlo Inn- Brampton Suites, located 10 miles from the park.
