A Peaceful RV Retreat Awaits At This Coastal California Campground Minutes From The Beach
If you're looking to plan a successful RV trip along California's fabled Central Coast, there are a few things you'll want to keep in mind. First: Highway 1 — aka The Pacific Coast Highway — is the way to travel to some of the most scenic locations in California. Second: if you are looking for a peaceful RV park that has incredible access to some of the best outdoor adventures the Central Coast has to offer, then you need to book a reservation at Coastal Dunes RV Park and Campground.
Located in the San Luis Obispo Region just outside of the picture-perfect town of Pismo Beach, Coastal Dunes is centrally located on Pacific Boulevard in the charming town of Oceana. An expansive RV park maintained by San Luis Obispo County Parks, Coastal Dunes offers RV trippers and tent campers plenty of spaces, amenities, and opportunities to enjoy coastal California life. And being just 25 minutes from Santa Maria and 1.5 hours from Santa Barbara, there's plenty surrounding the park to make for a pleasant extended visit.
Thanks to the mild climate of the Central Coast, Coastal Dune Campground is open year-round for camping reservations. Naturally, the busiest periods are going to be during summer, so make sure you book a site well in advance of your visit. There are walk-in sites available for hikers and cyclists, but for RVers it's best practice to reserve one of the camp's 230 spots in advance.
Comfortable and scenic RV camping
Regardless of whether you are driving a full-blown motorhome, or the little RV you've transformed into your home-away-from-home, Coastal Dunes can accommodate you. The park comes with a variety of pull-through and back-in campsites specifically designed to fit a number of different RV sizes. Smaller RV's are relegated to back-up sites, each of which is conveniently name-coded for size. El Capitan (10' to 40'), Maverick (18' – 30'), and Malibu (17' – 40') come with full hookups, sewer, 30 amps of electricity, water, and restroom/hot shower facilities. Each can also fit 2 units per site.
The pull-through spots, called Trestle and Cojo, are best for larger RV's and come with all the previously mentioned amenities, with the addition of cable television, coin-operated laundry, and communal fire pits for the three units that fit in the site. These accommodations make Coastal Dunes an excellent choice for RVing friends and family to share a trip together.
Reservations range from $47 – $66 depending on the type of camping you are doing. All camping comes with a mandatory $10 reservation fee. The site is also pet friendly and has firewood available for late night, beachside fire pits filled with laughter and good conversation.
Explore nearby beaches and towns
While Coastal Dunes RV Park and Campground is an amazing place to kick back and relax for a quiet weekend on the coast, the surrounding area offers plenty of opportunities for adventurous-minded travelers to stretch their legs and explore. No visit to this little gem of California coastline would be complete without visiting the nearby Pismo State Beach. A three-minute drive or 23-minute walk from the campground, Pismo delights visitors with beautiful sand dunes where they can spend plenty of time relaxing, sunbathing, swimming, surfing, fishing, and bird-watching.
Thrill-seekers will rejoice in the Oceano Dunes State Vehicle Recreation Area, where they can rent an ATV or beach buggy from places like Steve's Rentals and go banging around on the dunes pretending they are filming their own Grand Tour Special. It's a unique opportunity not found in many other areas.
Don't think that a stay in an RV park means you can't get out and enjoy a slice of culture too. Head to The Great American Melodrama Theatre for a fun evening of fun, family-friendly performances. Wine lovers would do well to take the 11-minute drive to Old Arroyo Grande Village, which is a charming shopping district filled with wineries, art galleries, and street roaming roosters.
