Flight attendants know a thing or two about luggage. They handle dozens, if not hundreds, of suitcases every day and usually carry one of their own. These essential air travel workers also know if a luggage brand is worthy of the hype it receives — or not. One brand that does get a seal of approval from multiple flight attendants is Travelpro.
During his own airport trips, the YouTuber behind The Shopping Expert asked flight attendants and pilots about their luggage brands of choice. In the video posted to his channel, he revealed that among the most common responses was Travelpro. The problem, however, is that Travelpro bags are expensive, with carry-ons listed on its website starting at around $160. The model discussed by The Shopping Expert sells on Amazon for $389.
But Redditors in r/flightattendants seem to like this brand too. "[Travelpro is] an investment but it's worth it," one commenter explained. "Mine is still going strong after 7 years." Another user agreed, stating, "I have been flying with the same Travelpro for the last 15 years. The handle still folds up and down like a new bag." Given how much checked bags and even carry-ons can get tossed around, it is clear that Travelpro bags are incredibly durable if they can last for so many years. But there are other reasons why this brand is so well-loved.
Travelpro offers several makes and models
Aside from longevity, Travelpro luggage products feature self-aligning magnetic wheels that easily glide in 360 degrees of direction. Many models, such as the Platinum Elite Carry-On Spinner, are also equipped with external USB-A and USB-C ports and a pocket for a power bank. This is especially handy when you're waiting for your flight to board because it eliminates the risk of leaving electronic items behind at charging outlets. Other Travelpro suitcases have innovative storage features, such as compression packing organizers in the Crew Classic Carry-On Spinner. The company offers sizes larger than carry-ons, along with both hardside and softside luggage options.
The downside of Travelpro is the price, ranging from around $160 to more than $400, depending on the bag. While fans of the products think they are worth the cost, not everyone wants to shell out this much cash. This is why finding one at a thrift store or on a resale market is a major score. If they are as long-lasting as flight attendants and other frequent travelers say they are, buying gently used Travelpro luggage will still give you years of hassle-free trips. If you are shopping for new luggage, but want something more affordable than Travelpro, brands with at least a few similar features include Swiss Gear and Wrangler.
