Florida's Stunning Gulf Coast Beach Feels Like Visiting The Bahamas

The views are special, and never more so than at sunset, when the sun dives beneath the horizon right in front of the beach.

St. Pete Beach is hardly a hidden gem. It was voted Tripadvisor's best U.S. beach in 2021, and regularly appears in lists of the best beaches in the country and even around the world. But it still retains a certain laid-back, island charm, in keeping with its Bahamian comparisons. It also means you can avoid the massive crowds that often overwhelm nearby spots like Clearwater Beach.

For many people, just lazing back on the sand and watching the world go by is all the entertainment they need on a beach vacation. And if that's the vibe you are looking for, then St. Pete Beach will deliver. But if you want something more, there's plenty on offer as well. Start with a stroll along the beach to check out the iconic and historic Don CeSar Hotel. This magnificent, cotton-candy pink beauty has been one of St. Pete's most famous landmarks since 1928, and is a sight to behold.

If you're looking for something a bit more active, the emerald-turquoise waters of the Gulf aren't just great for swimming. St. Pete Beach is a wonderful spot for watersports, from windsurfing and parasailing to sport fishing and paddleboarding. It's also a great place for wildlife lovers, with dolphin pods regularly seen offshore, both from the pier and by dolphin boat tour.

Another great option is to hire a bike and cycle south along Gulf Boulevard to check out historic Pass-a-Grille at the southern tip of the barrier island.
