This Popular Immersive Art Attraction Is Coming To Los Angeles And Opening Soon In 2026
Los Angeles is a must-visit for fans of movies and music, but its offerings in visual and fine art also put it among the best U.S. cities for art lovers. Checking out downtown street murals and visiting beloved organizations like The Broad (one of many free things you can do in LA) or the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the options are quite varied. However, a major dose of quirky fantasy is about to hit the City of Angels art scene in 2026.
Already beloved in Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth, Denver, Las Vegas, and Santa Fe, Meow Wolf has chosen Los Angeles for its sixth permanent art exhibition. More specifically, it will be located in HHLA, the outdoor shopping and entertainment center just four miles from the soon to be revamped LAX Airport. Meow Wolf is an organization of multimedia artists who collaborate to make family-friendly, immersive, hodgepodge experiences that are part visual art and part interactive entertainment. From life-size sculptures to 360-degree glowing paintings, Meow Wolf creators aim "to inspire creativity in people's lives through art, exploration, and play," according to their website. At Meow Wolf establishments, you'll see something unexpected around each corner and perhaps notice fantasy storylines weaving these moving parts together.
Meow Wolf Los Angeles will feature one-of-a-kind pieces and Hollywood themes
Given that each Meow Wolf is the brainchild of multiple collaborators — including many local artists — each iteration is different. For example, Meow Wolf Las Vegas features Omega Mart, a funny grocery store selling cartoonish and surreal parodies of everyday products. Freezer doors in Omega Mart act as hidden portals to a multi-level exploratory space that can only be described as psychedelia meets "Star Trek." At Meow Wolf Houston, follow a team of radio broadcasters into a strange, fantastical land with honky-tonks and art reflecting Houston's culture.
Clearly the possibilities with Meow Wolf are endless, which is what makes the new LA location so exciting. According to the Los Angeles Times, Meow Wolf curators have already revealed that the new location will feature "a 20-foot, 1,000-pound root-vegetable-like 'alien god.'" The wacky character is courtesy of Everything Is Terrible!, a collective of LA-based video artists whose previous projects involved 30,000 "Jerry Maguire" VHS tapes. The Meow Wolf Los Angeles experience will also draw upon Hollywood's glamorous and not-so-glamorous themes. Opening toward the end of 2026, Meow Wolf will join the ever-growing list of entertainment options at HHLA, which already includes several 60out escape rooms and Cinemark 18+XD movie theaters.
