America's Largest Outdoor Water Park Is A Must-Visit Midwest Gem For Family-Friendly Fun

With so many water parks to choose from these days, it's hard to know which one is best. As each one competes for the fastest slide or the biggest drop, it's enough to send parents into a spin. But if there's one place that knows how to do water parks, it's Wisconsin Dells, otherwise known as the Water Park Capital of the World. It has more than an astonishing 20 water parks and attracts millions of visitors each year. 

One of these parks is Noah's Ark Waterpark. Delighting water babies since 1979, it covers an immense 70 acres, earning itself the title of America's biggest water park in this Midwestern state that's a booming tourist destination. With the most waterslides in Wisconsin Dells, two wave pools, two lazy rivers, and five dedicated kids' areas, Noah's Ark caters to every age group. It topped a poll by Endless Travel Plans of the best water parks for families, beating both Splashin' Safari – the park planning a record-breaking water ride – and Aquatica Orlando. It was also named Newsweek's Best Outdoor Water Park in 2024.

One area where Noah's Ark really stands out is that, compared with many other major water parks, it's budget friendly. And when you have a large family, that can make all the difference. "Noah's Ark has something for everyone, big and small, young and old, and that is what makes it so much fun," one Tripadvisor reviewer wrote, adding it's "a great value for the money." Wisconsin Dells is just off I-90, about an hour's drive north of Madison, which is home to the nearest major airport, Dane County Regional Airport.

Noah's Ark has something for every generation, and you could easily spend a whole day here and still not have made your way around the whole park. Toddlers have several dedicated play zones, including Tadpole Bay with its shallow pools, mini slides, and a huge dump bucket. There's also Pelican Bay, with its water cannons and squirt guns, Elephants Pond kiddie pool, and Jumping Waters splash pad. One aspect of the park that's a huge comfort to parents is its focus on safety. "The staff was very friendly, and we noticed a large number of staff members at the slides and pool area which is great because it makes you feel safe," one Google reviewer wrote.

Young kids ready for a bigger adventure will love the wave pools, lazy rivers, and selection of slides. But one of the great things about Noah's Ark are the rides that the whole family can share. Like the Congo Bongo, a five-person raft that spins its way along a 700-foot slide. Teens up for a bigger adrenaline rush will want to head straight for Scorpion's Tail, a near-vertical drop that's 10 stories high, where you reach speeds of 50 feet per second. Or Black Anaconda, one of America's longest water coasters, will have them screaming with delight as it twists and turns at speeds of up to 30 mph. And don't forget the adults, who after all the excitement, may just be content with chilling out on a sun lounger with a nice cool drink in their own private cabana.

One of the reasons Noah's Ark topped the Endless Travel Plans poll is that it's budget-friendly. It estimated that a family of four can enter the park for $120, compared with $240 for Splashin' Safari or $280 for Universal's Volcano Bay. That's quite a save, especially when you have to consider transportation, parking, and meal costs, which soon add up. The Eat-Free ticket for $49.99 is also good value, and includes park admission, a combo meal, and the Rainy Day Guarantee, meaning if the weather messes up your plans, you can come back another day.

Dining options include the usual American classics like pizza, burgers, and ice-cream, and new for 2026 is the Wisconsin Cheese Truck, a cheese lover's heaven. There are plenty of bars when you need to cool down, serving refreshing cocktails or frozen drinks. If you're spending the night, Noah's Ark has a wide selection of accommodation packages with nearby hotels, which all include admission into the park. This ties in nicely with the new Neon Nights event, when the park stays open late for special ticket holders to slide along to music and LED light shows. Also new for 2026 are Sensory Days, in partnership with the Autism Society: The park opens one hour earlier to provide a quieter, calmer experience in the water for those with sensory sensitivities.

One area where Noah's Ark lost points in the poll was its season. Whereas parks like Kalahari Resorts Pocono Mountains – one of the biggest indoor waterparks in the U.S. – stay open year round, Noah's Ark is only open from the end of May until the beginning of September, and according to some Google reviews, not every attraction is open at the start of the season.
