This Family-Friendly Park Between Houston & Galveston Boasts A Huge, Crystal-Clear Lagoon

Lagoonfest Texas is located about 45 minutes south of Houston and just 25 minutes north of Galveston, off I-45 at Lago Mar Boulevard. The closest airport that serves both international and domestic flights is William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) in Houston, roughly a 30-minute drive away. The park is part of the Lago Mar community, and since opening in 2021, it has become a premier summer hotspot. This Lago Mar crystal clear lagoon was the first to offer public access and is the largest in Texas.

Lagoonfest Texas is a man-made lagoon powered by Crystal Lagoons technology, which maintains its stunning turquoise color all year round while using a fraction of the water and energy of a traditional pool. The result is a pristine Caribbean-like oasis that transforms the area into a tropical escape. The lagoon has separate sections for different activities; for instance, there is a designated swimming area, where the water is 3 to 4 feet deep. 

If you want to enjoy watercraft activities or kayak, you can go to the deepest parts of the lagoon, which is 10 feet deep. You can rent sailboats, kayaks, and stand-up paddle boards for action-packed fun. These water activities will cost you an additional fee of between $15 and $40, depending on the activity. If you want to cruise the lagoon on an electric ferry, it costs about $175 for a group of 8.

After enjoying water activities, you can just kick back and sunbathe in the sand. There are plenty of ways to relax under the sun at Lagoonfest. Just like in some of the best water parks to visit across the U.S., you can reserve a cabana on the south shore of the lagoon (Peninsula), starting at $300 for the whole day. If you're hanging out with your friends, the cabana on the Paradise Shore fits up to 8 people, and you can bring a mini handheld speaker. Alternatively, rent a floating cabana and spend your afternoon floating on the lagoon as you soak in the sun. For private parties, you can book the VIP Skydeck, which is a beautiful lounge area with beautiful views of the lagoon and a private bar.

Beyond the clear waters of Lagoonfest Texas, you can enjoy the best of the Gulf Coast. Start with Bay Street Park, a beautiful waterfront 45-acre park with different recreational activities. This local gem has scenic picnic areas, shaded walking trails, and open fields. Kids will love the playground that features a splash pad, and the views of the bay make it a cool spot for families to decompress after a long day.

If you love fishing, you must visit the Texas City Dike, a 5.3-mile stretch into Galveston Bay. It is not only one of the longest man-made fishing piers in the world, but it is also located near the Bolivar Peninsula, one of Texas's best birding spots, and an unsung pristine destination with pretty beaches. Here, you can cast a line on the pier or launch a boat to fish in the bay. The Dike also has picnic areas, kids' playgrounds, and beaches where you can relax or play golf in the 18-hole disc golf course. 

When hunger strikes, head to Mainland City Centre, which has a collection of local eateries in the Restaurant Row. You can find eateries serving delicious cuisines, fresh seafood, and comfort food. If you're craving BBQ, the Texas Pit Stop is the perfect stop. On the menu, you will find sliced brisket, pork ribs, turkey, and chicken served with sides such as Cajun potato salad or baked beans.
