The Loyalty Partnership That Lets You Sip Your Way To Cheaper Delta Flights

Miles and coffee go together like peanut butter and jelly. If you haven't already linked your Delta SkyMiles and Starbucks Rewards account, you're missing out on free miles every time you purchase a cup of coffee. When you enroll in both programs, you can earn one Delta mile for every $1 you spend at Starbucks on eligible purchases, including beverages, drinks, and merchandise. To put that in perspective, if you get a latte and a snack every day, you'll rack up enough miles to get a free trip from SFO to JFK in less than a year. Every little bit counts.

There are a few other perks worth noting, too. As of 2024, if you're a Diamond SkyMiles or Platinum SkyMiles member, you can use one of your Delta Choice Benefits to get 4,000 Starbucks Stars. On days when you have a scheduled flight with Delta, you can also earn double Starbucks Stars for each order you make that day. Plus, every so often, you'll be eligible for additional bonuses, like earning extra airline miles when you purchase during a certain timeframe. Whatever miles you earn are yours to keep, as Delta miles never expire. If this strategic partnership has you thinking about eating Starbucks three meals a day, you're not the only one — @ravewithjen and other fans will see you there.

How to earn miles with your coffee order

Enroll in a Delta SkyMiles account on the airline website to start earning SkyMiles and Stars. Next, download the Starbucks app on your phone and enroll in the Starbucks Rewards program. Now, all you have to do is link the two on the joint Delta Starbucks website. Enter your first name, last name, Delta SkyMiles number, and Starbucks login credentials. That's it! Now, when you make a mobile order or scan your app in person at a Starbucks shop, you'll automatically earn miles for your Delta SkyMiles account.

You can keep track of your SkyMiles in your Delta account area, which may take up to 10 business days following a purchase to show up. Your Starbucks Stars can be found in your Starbucks app, which should update within two days after your last coffee fix. When you're ready to book a getaway, make sure your flight is scheduled at least 48 hours after you buy your ticket; that way, you'll be eligible for a Delta Travel Day to earn double Starbucks Stars. If it happens that you're traveling on Delta while there's already a Double Stars day in place, you're in luck. Say hello to triple stars. Your morning coffee just got a whole lot better.
