'Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge' Opening Date Finally Revealed For Disneyland, Walt Disney World

The biggest news in theme park history since, basically, ever has finally been revealed. After much speculation, Disney has announced the opening date for Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World. And it's sooner than you may expect.

Unique Attractions at Disney Theme Parks Around the World

According to a press release, Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge will open at Disneyland Park on May 31 and at Walt Disney World's Hollywood Studios on August 29. Prepare your summer vacation plans accordingly.

Disney is taking no chances when it comes to curbing what are sure to be massive crowds. Guests who want to experience the first three weeks of Galaxy's Edge at Disneyland are going to need to make a no-cost reservation on the theme park's website in order to access the area, along with theme park admission, of course. Fortunately for guests who are staying at the Disneyland resorts (The Grand Californian, Disneyland Hotel and Paradise Pier), a reservation to visit the land will be included with their stay.

It's yet to be seen whether or not the Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge at Hollywood Studios will have a similar reservation system.

In addition to the reservation system, Galaxy's Edge will also be opening in phrases. On May 31 in Anaheim and August 29 in Orlando, guests will be able to experience Batuu, an all-new planet in the Star Wars universe where smugglers, traders and other off-kilter types wander. This area will also feature the brand new ride Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, where guests board Han Solo's legendary spaceship and take control. And those controls actually work, affecting the way the Falcon soars through space (and giving each guest a unique ride experience).

Batuu will also feature plenty of good eats and merchandise. Notably, Oga's Cantina will be selling alcohol at Disneyland for everyday guests for the first time in history. Other food and beverage options include crazy popcorn flavors from Kat Saka's Kettle, bowls of galactic-themed meat and uniquely spiced accompaniments at Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo, slow-cooked meats and wraps at Ronto Roasters, and the famous Blue Milk and Green Milk at the Milk Stand.

At a later date (which has yet to be revealed), phase two of Galaxy's Edge will open on both coasts with the second attraction, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, which Disney promises will "blur the lines between fantasy and reality" as guests engage in a battle between the First Order and the Resistance. It's teased as Disney's "most ambitious, immersive and advanced attraction ever imagined."

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge is designed to be fully immersive, with guests interacting with different elements of the area using the Play Disney Parks smartphone app. And because it is Star Wars (and Disney), the land also boasts ample opportunities to stock up on merchandise, including lightsabers, droids, creatures, stunning costumes and so much more.

If Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge sounds like a lot, that's because it is. And this ambitious new land is only one of the many ways that Disney theme parks are going to look totally different by 2021.
