National Geographic Announces People's Choice 2014 Adventurer Of The Year

Nominated among a field of some of the world's most daring and extreme athletes, Kilian Jornet was voted National Geographic's 2014 Adventurer of the Year thanks to his revolutionary climbing abilities and record-breaking endurance runs over some of the world's most challenging terrains.

Last year Jornet set new records on the Matterhorn and Mont Blanc, finishing his run up and down the former in just two hours and 52 minutes. These pursuits and all of his current climbs are a part of his four-year-long Summits of My Life project where he's attempting to conquer new speed records over several of the world's most famous peaks.

National Geographic calls Jornet the "most prolific endurance athlete of his generation" and last year we named him among our best outdoor and endurance athletes in the world.

This year marked the ninth anniversary of the People's Choice Adventurer of the Year project in which National Geographic scours the globe for groundbreaking athletes who have achieved extraordinary feats in in exploration, adventure sports, conservation, and humanitarianism. After announcing their nominees, they leave the fate of the final winner in the hands of readers who can vote for their favorite adventurer.

Of course, even after achieving this great distinction Jornet has no plans of slowing down. This year he's setting out to conquer both Denali in Alaska and Aconcagua in Argentina. And even when that's all said and done his work still won't be finished—in 2015 he plans to tackle Everest.
