California's One-Of-A-Kind Glamping Destination Outside Of Yosemite Is Opening In 2026

Yosemite National Park is one of the most breathtakingly beautiful destinations within the United States. The renowned conservationist John Muir once poetically wrote that "no temple made with hands can compare with Yosemite. Every rock in its walls seems to glow with life." The dramatic landscape in California has inspired millions of nature lovers around the world, but you don't have to rough it in the wilderness to enjoy the beauty of Yosemite Valley. Under Canvas is opening a brand new glamping resort that's just 10 minutes from the park's entrance.

Under Canvas is a luxury glamping company with locations near some of America's most iconic nature destinations. The Lake Powell location is one of the best glamping resorts in Utah, and various locations are often listed among the best glamping resorts in the world. With the addition of the Yosemite location, there will be a total of 14 Under Canvas properties scattered across the United States. The accommodations are inspired by safari tents, but they're decked out with luxurious amenities, comfortable beds, and en-suite bathrooms.

If you're looking to "climb the mountains and get their good tidings," as John Muir once wrote, but you'd rather rest your head somewhere comfortable at the end of the day, Under Canvas Yosemite may be the perfect place to stay.

Enjoy luxury glamping close to the national park

Under Canvas Yosemite is on 85 acres about 10 minutes from Yosemite's Big Oak Flat entrance. The Big Oak Flat entrance is one of the most popular ways to access the Yosemite Valley, and it's located on the west end of the park. Popular landmarks like Tunnel View, Glacier Point, and Yosemite Falls are best accessed via the Big Oak Flat entrance.

There are four different safari-style glamping tents to choose from. The Deluxe Tent sleeps two people in a king size bed. The Stargazer has a king size bed, and a window above the bed for views of the night sky. The Suite is perfect for families or couples traveling together. There is a king size bed and a lounge area with a queen-size pull out sofa. It can sleep up to four people. The El Capitan Suite is great for larger groups of up to six people. Each tent comes equipped with heat, private bathrooms, and outdoor private patio areas.

In addition to lounging in their glamping tents, Under Canvas guests can enjoy plenty of onsite amenities. The Yosemite location has a large lobby tent that is decked out with West Elm furniture. There is also a cafe-style restaurant in the lobby tent where you can grab a bite at the end of a long day of hiking. Bonfires are held nightly on the property, and ingredients for making s'mores are provided. Under Canvas also hosts special events like live musical performances, yoga classes, and activities for families with kids.

Planning your trip to Under Canvas Yosemite

Under Canvas Yosemite is the glamping company's first location in California. It was originally scheduled to open during the spring of 2025, but the opening was set back due to complications, according to reviews on Tripadvisor. The resort is finally scheduled to open to the public on April 16, 2026, and will remain open until October 26, 2026. Under Canvas is rather expensive for glamping accommodations. Prices start at $346 per night for the Deluxe Tent. The most expensive option is the El Capitan Suite, which costs $989 per night. If you're looking to stay super close to the park's entrance, it may be worth the splurge.

Guests are permitted to bring along their four-legged family members as long as they're willing to pay the additional pet fee. If you do bring your pet, keep in mind that they are only allowed in developed areas of Yosemite National Park including paved roads and sidewalks. They are not permitted on trails or in wilderness areas.

Under Canvas Yosemite's nearest major airport is Fresno-Yosemite International, which is about an hour and a half away by car. Oakland International airport is about three and a half hours from the glamping resort, and San Francisco International Airport is four hours away. The Yosemite shuttle called YARTS stops at the Under Canvas property, so you can explore the national park without the need of a car and avoid the hassle of parking.
