This San Antonio Resort Is Opening A Massive Lagoon Just In Time For Spring Break

Spring break is here and with it brings the annual rush to find a relaxing way to start enjoying the sun we've missed all winter. Many people dream of quintessential getaways at this time of year, like stretching out on sandy shores, dipping into turquoise waters, or enjoying a lively party poolside. Beach vacations top the list for many spring breakers, as they offer a chance to wind down and soak of the feelings of escape and adventure in a warm location where winter layers are left behind. (Just make sure to avoid these dangerous spring break destinations.)

For residents and visitors of San Antonio, reaching a true beach vacation can mean a long drive to the Gulf Coast or booking a flight. That is, until earlier in March when the Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa, just 20 minutes west of downtown San Antonio, debuted a new attraction.

The expansive 300-acre property in the Texas Hill Country has completed a multimillion-dollar, multi-year renovation with their ribbon cutting ceremony on March 5, 2026. The project cost $100 million and includes refreshed guest rooms, upgraded meeting spaces, new dining venues, and new recreational experiences. But what most people are discussing is the new Big Spring Lagoon. The resort now delivers the quintessential spring break everyone desires without the need to travel to the coast.

Water fun at Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa

The heart of the Hyatt Regency Hill Country's upgrade is the Big Spring Lagoon, a 2.2-acre crystalline lagoon with picture perfect white sandy beaches and incredibly blue hued water. Guests can lounge on the soft sand, enjoy premium cabanas for shaded comfort, and try various water sports like kayaking or paddle boarding. The lagoon offers private villas with patios and fire pits for a more secluded experience. The 5,600-foot Rancher Hall is adjacent and serves as the newest indoor-outdoor venue at the resort. It is ideal for weddings, corporate events, or large gatherings with gorgeous views of the lagoon.

This addition to the resort builds on its already established water-focused entertainment. It expands the existing 5-acre water park that features multiple pools, a lazy river, a two-story waterslide, and a FlowRider wave simulator. Visitors can enjoy poolside food and drinks, plus access to a golf course and spa facilities. The addition of the lagoon and event center create a highly appealing destination for those seeking a vacation this spring break that won't break the bank.

The lagoon and other experiences at the Hyatt are reserved for resort guests only. To experience it yourself, book a stay through the Hyatt website or by contacting the resort. And for more fun in the area, make sure to check out our roundup of the most beautiful destinations in Texas Hill Country
