Glacier National Park's Charming B&B Offers Romantic Ambience For A Cozy Getaway

With its gorgeous natural setting, rustic rooms and cabins, and proximity to endless outdoor activities, the Great Bear Inn is the perfect couples' escape. This intimate bed and breakfast sits on the edge of Montana's Glacier National Park, which was originally the home of the Blackfeet and Flathead Indigenous groups. They used the land for fishing, hunting, and tribal ceremonies. This land in the Rocky Mountains became a national park in 1910 and was only the 10th one established in the United States. It covers an incredible 1 million acres, and Glacier National Park is often called the "Crown of the Continent."

The Great Bear Inn is in the tiny town of West Glacier, just a 30-minute drive from Glacier Park International Airport (FCA), which operates nonstop flights to major cities all over the United States. When you pull into town, you will quickly discover that it is a great base for booking outdoor activities — you can find everything from fishing to hiking to whitewater rafting trips. West Glacier also has plenty of places to buy gear, eat, and sleep. The Great Bear Inn is just on the outskirts of town, so you can be sure you'll have everything you need nearby for your getaway.

Settle into the charming Great Bear Inn

The Great Bear Inn feels like a classic mountain chalet, tucked away in the forests and peaks of Montana. The property has eight beautifully designed rooms and two standalone cabins. Room rates start at $300 per night and all bookings include breakfast every morning. French toast, eggs, fresh fruit, and other offerings will fortify you for an active day ahead in the national park. The Grande Rooms cost $370 per night are the most romantic choice for a cozy getaway, with in-room fireplaces and king-sized canopy beds.

The freestanding cabins are more expensive at $425 per night, but have two stories and full kitchens with enough space to spread out if you're traveling with a group. There is a big game room at the inn to keep you entertained when you are not out exploring. It has a pool table and a bunch of board games, perfect for a little healthy competition on a romantic getaway.  Be sure to head out to the the wraparound deck. Once you find a chair with the perfect view, you will want to claim it for the remainder of your stay. It does not get much more romantic than this.

Explore nearby spots in Glacier National Park

Though it might be tempting to just hang out at the cozy Great Bear Inn all day, you definitely shouldn't. Glacier National Park is one of the most popular national parks in the country for good reason. To start exploring, you will need to purchase a standard entrance pass ($35 per vehicle), which is valid for seven days. Certain parts of Glacier National Park, including the mountainside Going-to-the-Sun road trip route, require a timed reservation to enter, and you can buy a pass and make reservations online.

The Apgar Visitor Center is less than 2 miles beyond the national park's West Entrance and has a bookstore, fascinating exhibits, and knowledgable park rangers. There is also plenty of parking in case you want to take a shuttle or book a bus tour. Lake McDonald, the largest in the park, sits just north of the visitor center. And for couples that like hiking, the stunning 6-mile out-and-back Avalanche Lake Trail is a must-do. The Great Bear Inn will let you borrow bear spray as a precaution before you head out on the trails. While dangerous encounters are rare, Glacier National Park is home to both black and grizzly bears. There were a couple of incidents in 2024 and 2025, so it's best to be prepared. Here's what to do if you run into a bear when out hiking.
