You don't always need to travel across the globe to find a little rest and relaxation. Perhaps all you need is a break from your usual routine and some time away from life's many demands. Instead of spending a fortune on planning a cabin getaway to some far-flung location across the U.S. that will be over in the blink of an eye, you could invest in an affordable camping set up that will allow you to have a luxurious glamping experience in your own backyard whenever you want. Sometimes staycations are the best vacations.
The gargantuan e-commerce company, Amazon, has once again expanded their offerings, so now you can have a state of the art cabin shipped right to your house. All you have to do is assemble and furnish the unit and you'll have created your very own backyard camping resort.
In addition to providing a place to get away from the drudgery of daily life (or escape from your family for a few hours), Amazon's luxury cabin kits allow you to create a comfortable and private place for overnight guests to stay. You could even create an auxiliary rental unit on your property and list it on short-term rental online marketplaces like Airbnb or Vrbo. With prices starting at around $8,000, owning a luxurious backyard cabin could be an attainable goal for many.
Build a classic cabin for under $10K
A classic wood cabin brings to mind mountain getaways, romantic Valentine's Day rentals, and old-fashioned family fun. There's something so nostalgic and welcoming about a dwelling crafted from natural materials. For generations, settlers moving into new territory have built rustic timber cabins to protect themselves from the elements. Fortunately, you don't have to travel far into the wilderness and spend weeks chopping trees down with an axe to immerse yourself in the cozy cabin vibes. All you have to do is pull out your favorite electronic device and drop a cool $8,164 on Amazon.
For the price, the Allwood Escape Cabin is excellent. The Escape Cabin is one of their most affordable cabin-kit option on Amazon. It's 108 square feet which makes it a great choice for small backyards. The cabin is made from solid wood and comes unfinished. You can choose to stain it or paint it a fun color. According to the Amazon listing, it will take two adults about four days to construct with basic tools. The instructions that come with the cabin make construction easy. Keep in mind that it does not include roof shingles, a foundation, electric, or plumbing. The cabin isn't insulated, so it's best for mild climates. If you want to use it year round, you will need to add insulation.
According to Allwood's Instagram, some customers have created Airbnb rentals with the kit. They were able to fit a queen size bed, nightstands, a desk, a microwave, a mini fridge, and a table with two chairs, a mini-split air conditioning unit, and a flat screen television.
Lounge in luxury in your own cabin
If you're looking for more space, Allwood has plenty of other models to choose from. The Claudia Cabin Kit is the company's bestseller according to their Instagram account. It's 209 square feet and costs just under $13,000 on Amazon. It's made from solid, Nordic spruce wood. Like the Escape Cabin, it comes unfinished –– allowing you to get creative with the final look. Assembling the cabin kit will take two adults up to five days, according to the listing.
If you really want to go all out, you can purchase the Allwood Timberline which has just under 500 square feet of space. That's bigger than some studio apartments in New York City. It costs about $40,000 and you have the option to divide it into two or three rooms when you put it together.
Some customers adore their purchase but the reviews are mixed on Amazon. "This thing is so awesome! I have a big back yard and once it was assembled and furnished I am now getting $600 a month for this bad boy," wrote a customer named Patrick Joseph Moses who called it the "best cabin ever." Others aren't so sure it was a good buy because putting it together is so much work. "I didn't think this through. There's no sink, toilet, furniture, kitchen. I had to assemble it myself. This is a millennial's nightmare. Boo Amazon, boo," wrote Larry Mattacchione in their review. It's important to keep in mind that you will have to add finishing touches like electric, plumbing, furniture, and appliances. That being said, if you're somewhat handy want to create an affordable camping oasis is your backyard, these Amazon luxury cabin kits could be a great option.
