Let's say you had a beautiful dream of a serene beach. This gem has turquoise water for swimming and inviting golden sand, perfect for lounging while you ponder the unique volcanic rock formations beneath the water's surface. Now imagine waking up to find out that this beach really exists. It sounds just about perfect, and as it turns out, it really is. This beach of dreams is called Baía dos Porcos, or Pig's Bay, and it sits in the Fernando de Noronha archipelago off the northeastern coast of Brazil.
Baía dos Porcos is one of the smaller beaches in the area (with only about 100 feet of sand), but it has more than enough beauty to make up for it. It's also pretty secluded. You can only reach Praia Cacimba do Padre during low tide if its crossing is not submerged during high tide. It's worth the wait, as the water sports here are lovely, and you won't be overrun by fellow tourists. What you can do at Baía dos Porcos
While here, you can swim in the clear and deliciously warm water or bake your stress in the sun. The air and the sea hover between the low to mid-80 degrees Fahrenheit all year. The best months to visit Baía dos Porcos are January, February, November, and December. These months offer excellent beach weather with a low chance of rain, ideal for sunbathing and swimming. It's important to note that the water can sometimes get rough, so it may not be suitable for inexperienced swimmers.
On Cacimba do Padre (the eastern side), the waves can be fantastic for surfing. Where Baía dos Porcos really shines, however, is with underwater sports. The clear water makes this place especially good for snorkeling and diving. You can see some of the rocks in our story, but there is more to see if you scuba. You could swim past corals, dolphins, sea turtles, moray eels, barracuda, wrasse, parrotfish, stingrays, snappers, trumpetfish, and more.
What to know before you go
So, how do you get to this secluded Brazilian beach? You can hike to the beach from Praia da Cacimba do Padre, which will take about 30 minutes. You can also drive in and park by the road outside, though you have to be lucky to get a spot. You can even get here on a boat tour or with a guide who knows the area. Once you arrive, you will have a stretch of sand to lounge on, volcanic rock formations to climb, and a lovely, warm ocean.
If you're wondering about its moniker, Pig's Bay is named after the rock figures that resemble a group of pigs. The two larger rock formations that you can see in the first picture are called Morros Dois Irmãos, or Two Brothers Hills. There are a few things to keep in mind here. First, you'll swim at your own risk as no lifeguards are present. Dogs are permitted, but nude bathing is not. There are also no amenities like bathrooms, showers, or restaurants, so make sure to bring in what you need and take any garbage back out.
