Steven's Pass: 3 Feet Of Snow In 12 Hours
This morning brought great news for powder hounds in Washington state. Stevens Pass—a popular ski area 78 miles east of Seattle in the Cascade Range—received a historic 39 inches of snow in a 12-hour period. It's the largest overnight snowfall in the area in recent decades.
In the last 24 hours, 48 inches has fallen on Steven's Pass, bringing the week's total to 107 inches.
The onslaught of powder allowed Stevens Pass to open Mill Valley on the backside of the Mountain. Skiers and snowboarders there sailed through waist-to-chest-deep snow all day.
An average of 450 inches of snow falls on the 1,125 acres of skiable terrain at Stevens Pass each year. The resort's normal winter season runs from December to mid-April.
