It's that time again— no, not the holiday season. It's the snow sports season; that magical time of the year when we leave all our responsibilities at the base of the mountain and enjoy a day (or five) on the slopes. The Active Times staff would like to help you make the best of your time in the snow. Chairlift pitch: Badger Pass is California's original ski area. It's been around since the early 1930s, and sits on a natural mountain with real, quality snow. Our trails are great for all types and levels of experience. It's a great value with even better accommodations, said Erica Schlesinger, a Tenaya Resort Representative.

Deals and discounts: This season's discounts include stay and ski deals, military passes and student discounts. All offers are listed on their website. Military service members and veterans always ski free; the families of military personnel receive 50 percent off their lift tickets. College students can take advantage of several great deals including a season pass for just $69.
Right now: As of Dec.30, Badger Pass is not yet open for the season.
Upgrades: Badger Pass recently underwent renovations. The restrooms and locker rooms have been updated along with the outdoor deck. The deck is a popular spot with a view of the mountain and the trails.
