The World's Cheapest Destinations For Travelers

A new book from budget traveler and media guru Tim Leffel profiles 21 countries for cash-conscious explorers. It's called The World's Cheapest Destinations: 21 Countries Where Your Money is Worth a Fortune, and it's due for release in January.

Gadling did a great interview with Leffel about how he started the project, his travels and keeping costs down–even while traveling with his family.

I went around the world with my wife three times. We were teaching English and I was writing stories as well. There was no good guide to figure out what countries were the cheapest; we just figured it out by trial and error.

According to Leffel, the 21 cheapest countries are Thailand, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Laos, Vietnam, India, Nepal, Morocco, Egypt, Jordan, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador and Honduras.
