Tuna on cutting board
This Underrated Costal Italian Village Is A Must-Visit
For Foodies
By JENNIFER SIZELAND
Sicily is one of Italy's most delicious regions for those who love seafood, especially Marzamemi, a fishing village where seafood can be on your plate the day it is caught.
Marzamemi used to be home to a tuna fishery, so tuna is the number one food to enjoy in this village. Fried fish, calamari, and shrimp are also popular.
The village has two seafood restaurants in the Michelin Guide: Cortile Arabo, which
has a terrace overlooking the ocean, and Taverna La Cialoma, located in a former tuna fishery.
For a more budget-friendly option, visit The La Casa Del Pomodoro. It has amazing reviews and is known for its Pachino tomato-based dishes, namely its pasta,
spaghetti, and pizza.
If you want to get more of a feel for Marzamemi's food heritage, head to Vendicari Nature Reserve where you can see more tuna fishery ruins and spot the aging salt pans.
