Everything To Know Before Visiting The Statue Of Liberty
By DANIEL FEININGER
A ferry ticket to see the Statue of Liberty includes a stop at Ellis Island, and getting off at Ellis Island first will prepare you for a day full of walking.
Ellis Island
Most of the Ellis Island experience is found indoors, so you'll be in the air conditioning and comfortable halls of the museum portion at the beginning of your trip.
Liberty Island spans about 15 acres, and taking in Lady Liberty from different spots will take up a good portion of your time, so be sure to wear good walking shoes.
Footwear
Remember to bring sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat or umbrella. Liberty Island has little tree cover, and this time outdoors could drain your energy and cause sunburn.
Sun
A journey to Ellis and Liberty Islands can be launched from New York or New Jersey. It's important to note that you must return to the same place you departed.
States
Plenty of food options are available on Liberty Island, but they can be expensive. Fortunately, visitors can bring their own food and drink on the ferry.
