Catch Stunning Fall Foliage Views At This Underrated Southern U.S. Town
By JENNIFER SIZELAND
Named one of USA TODAY's U.S. bucket list destinations and number one in the scenic view category in the Southern Living Reader's Choice Awards, Rock City has a lot going on.
The Georgia town's main attraction, Rock City Gardens, is a natural marvel with ancient stone formations looking out to seven states. It is stunning in the fall.
As one of the most popular attractions in Georgia, the jewel in Rock City Gardens' crown is Lover's Leap, a picturesque lookout with a waterfall beneath it.
The gardens also feature Fairyland Caverns, the Mother Goose Village with scenes from nursery rhymes, the Swing-a-Long Bridge over Chattanooga Valley, and art installations.
In October, Rocktoberfest is a themed festival that happens every weekend of the month featuring German food, music, beer, children's entertainers, and a bird of prey show.
From mid-November to the beginning of January, the rock formations are lit in different colors to create The Enchanted Garden of Lights.
Rock City is about two hours from Nashville, Atlanta, Knoxville, or Birmingham. Chattanooga is only six miles away and is a good base for accommodations.
