Banish Campfire Odors With This Unexpected Secret Ingredient
By TRICIA GOSS
The smell of campfire smoke can linger on your clothes, gear, and vehicle. Luckily, there's a simple solution to this problem that you probably already have on hand: baking soda.
Shake out your items to remove any ash, then add a cup of baking soda to your detergent. You can also soak items overnight in warm water with half a cup of baking soda.
After washing, air-dry the items in the sun, if possible. To neutralize odors inside your shoes, sprinkle a little baking soda and shake out the excess before wearing them.
Create a baking soda sachet for hard-to-wash items like sleeping bags or backpacks. If your car smells too smoky, leave an open box of baking soda in it overnight.
Baking soda is great because it neutralizes and eliminates odors rather than just masking them. It is also amphoteric, meaning it can neutralize both acids and bases.
