According to legend, the cathedral was built by an Italian architect who was later blinded by Ivan IV so that he could never replicate the design of the building anywhere else.

The Sheikh Zayed Mosque in the United Arab Emirates has glistening onion-top domes, shiny pools spanning the courtyard, marble tiles with hand-painted flowers, gemstones throughout, and verses of the Quran in calligraphy and painted with gold leaf. With an open-door policy, tourists and worshippers can stroll in to pray or just witness the details.
