PHOTOS: Mexican Snow Fairy 5.13+ Crack Climb In Moab

On a recent trip to Moab, UT., Black Diamond athlete J.P. Ouellet established and claimed the first ascent of Mexican Snow Fairy, one of the hardest finger cracks in the Southwest.

Ouellet found the route in Longs Canyon the year before while hiking. The crack is 45 meters long and "super thin the whole way," according to Ouellet's email to Black Diamond. It took Ouellet a day and a half to clean the dirt and gravel out of the crack in preparation for his attempts. He was then able to try the route a couple of times each day and completed it just before the end of the trip.

Watch for Ouellet's narrated slideshow of the first ascent on Black Diamond's 2013 Climbing digital catalog, scheduled for release on March 1.
