Travel Snap: This Week's Featured Photo

This week's photo was taken by Arturo Donate on South Holston Lake in Tennessee. After driving through the night on a road trip with his friends, they made it to the lake at dawn. With the lake to themselves, they put off sleep and went out on the water. The rising sun served as the perfect backdrop for this striking wakeboarding shot. Donate said it was his favorite shot and it's one of our favorites too.

South Holston Lake is set among the Appalachian Mountains. Most of the 7,600-acre lake is in Tennessee, but it extends into Virginia. About 60 percent of the shoreline is bordered by the Cherokee National Forrest.

The lake is a haven for outdoor recreation. Popular activities include boating, jet skiing, canoeing, white water rafting, fishing, camping, hiking, mountain climbing and caving. It's a popular fishing spot due to its variety of cast-off points and array of sought after fish, like black bass, bluegill and catfish, among others.
