Meet The Next Lindsey Vonn
When Mikaela Shiffrin smashed the competition at the 2010 Eastern United States junior ski championships, people began calling her the next Lindsey Vonn. Her recent record, however, suggests that she might become even better.
Shiffrin, 17, recently became the first American to win two World Cup races before the age of 18. She secured this record in slalom races in the European World Cup. In addition, she won her second race by 1.19 seconds—a victory margin not seen in slalom for more than a year.
Vonn, on the other hand, did not win her first World Cup victory until the relatively ripe old age of 20.
If Shiffrin wins the World Cup slalom season title—a difficult, but possible, feat—she could be one of the gold medal favorites at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Russia.
