A 1,000-Mile Swim Down The Missouri

On Saturday, David Cornthwaite completed his seventh 1,000-mile mission: A swim down the Missouri River that ended at the St. Louis Arch.

Although Cornthwaite has taken on other lengthy adventures, including a skateboard trip across Australia and a paddleboard excursion down the Mississippi, this may have been his hardest yet.

Cornthwaite battled persistent high winds, exposure, fatigue and other challenges during his swim. At the hardest moments of the trip, even his teammates (stand-up paddle boarders who traveled along with Cornthwaite) were worried.

"He is absolutely shattered," one teammate said in a video on Cornthwaite's YouTube Channel. "I don't think I've ever seen him this tired before, and I'm quite worried about the state that he's in,"

Cornthwaite began the trip at the end of August. To finish in two months meant he swam more than 16 miles per day.

This is the seventh of a total of 25 expeditions that Cornthwaite will undertake as part of his Expedition1000. His goal for the 10-year adventure is to raise £1,000,000 for selected charities. The profits from the swim will go to CoppaFeel, an organization that aims to "stamp out late detection and misdiagnosis of breast cancer."
