Hurricane Sandy As Art

Hurricane Sandy was a brutish storm, to be sure, but she's not all death and destruction. Check out this beautiful "wind map," which looks van Gogh-inspired. The data is taken from the National Digital Forecast Database, and morphed into an as-accurate-as-possible map that animates "the delicate tracery of wind flowing over the U.S.," according to the map's creators, technologists Fernanda ViƩgas and Martin Wattenberg. Check out the animation on their website, hint.fm.
