Holy Cow! Whales Almost Swallow Divers Whole
You know how they always tell you not to get too close to the wildlife? Case in point: this video.
Two friends snorkeling at Souza Rock on the central California coast almost became real-life Jonahs when they found themselves hanging out a little too close to where a pod of humpbacks was feeding.
Shawn Stamback and Francis Antigua, both of San Luis Obispo, were documenting their dive with GoPro cameras for Stamback's website, SLODivers.com, Saturday morning when they saw two whales feeding nearby.
"When we got in, the whales were about a quarter of a mile away," Stamback told GrindTV.
Suddenly, the divers found themselves surrounded by a shoal of sardines—prime whale food. It was then that things got scary. Take a look:
"That was my once-in-a-lifetime whale encounter," Stamback told the San Luis Obispo Tribune.
Stamback and Antigua promptly got back on their boat and skedaddled.
"We pretty much figured that we used up all our luck for the day, so why push it?" he told the Tribune.
