There's a reason we hike out into the wilderness: it's wild, devoid of the trappings of and, where possible, the signs of human habitation. But how do you keep it that way, even as more and more hikers are lacing up and hitting the trail? That's a question land managers and outdoorspeople have been chewing on for decades. In 1994, they put their heads together and founded nonprofit Leave No Trace to develop best practices and spread the gospel of living lightly on the land.
