Extreme Filmmaking: Sender Films Gets A CBS Close-Up
On Thursday CBS This Morning featured Sender Films and its founder Pete Mortimer.
Sender Films is perhaps best known for its movies about Alex Honnold and slackliner "Sketchy" Andy Lewis. The documentary on Honnold's free-solo climb up Yosemite's Half Dome landed the young climber on 60 minutes, while Lewis was asked to perform at the 2012 Super Bowl with Madonna.
CBS Correspondent Jeff Glor visited Mortimer in Boulder, CO. to check out a day-in-the-life with Sender Films, as well as to meet Mortimer's family.
Mortimer had Glor dangle from the top of The Bastille in Eldorado Canyon State Park, to show him "the world from our perspective."
Glor goes along for the ride, remarking "I've never done an interview off the side of a mountain before."
The feature also discusses the challenges the filmmakers face and gives viewers a glimpse into the life of Pete Mortimer, who is married with a two-year-old daughter. It also lets Mortimer share why making these films is so important.
"We think when people go out there and push their limits and redefine the possibilities of what humans can do that that's inspirational,"he said.
