Camping Trending On Google
A new infographic by Google hints at an interesting summer trend. Google compiled the top rising searches this summer for the United States, France, Italy, India, Canada, Mexico, Spain, Great Britain and the Netherlands. And while certain keywords, such as Ristorante Trattoria in Italy or playa in Spain, were predicable, the international popularity of camping was intriguing.
Out of all the rising keyword searches, camping ranked first in France, second in the United States, third in Canada and fourth in Spain, Italy and Great Britain.
The infographic section on American landmarks hints at a few popular destinations in the United States. Death Valley was the most popular term (although likely for sightseeing rather than camping in the 120+ summer temperatures), followed by Redwoods National Park, Yosemite National Park, and Yellowstone – three popular summer camping areas.
So where do people go to experience the wilderness abroad?
In France, seven national parks are found across the country. These include Vanoise National Park in the mountainous Savoie region near Grenoble and Port Cros National Park on the Mediterranean island of Porquerolles off the south-eastern coast.
Within Canada's network of 42 national parks, there are many popular destinations. The most visited and oldest is Banff National Park in Alberta. More than four million visitors pass through the gates every year for camping, kayaking climbing, skiing and various other activities. Other popular parks include Jasper National Park in Alberta, Gros Morne in Newfoundland, Kootenay National Park in British Columbia and Cape Breton Highlands in Nova Scotia.
Spain, Italy and Great Britain also have gems including Dartmoor National Park, Garajonay National Park and the National Park of the Bay of Orosei and Gennargentu.
